Normally, it is cheaper to use gas for heat and hot water. There are exceptions to that rule, however. Here in MO, the electric utilities are not allowed to charge a fuel adjustment charge. Oddly enough, gas utilities are. Go figure! Anyhow, a couple of years ago when gas prices went through the roof, my neighbor who heats with gas was hit with a $ 900.00 gas bill during a particularly cold snap. My electric bill was under $ 300.00. His house is 2200 sqft, and mine is 3000.
The temp on the water heater will have a significant impact on your energy bills, either gas or electric. Normally you should set it to 125 F.
The best bet when deciding on a home — either a rental or to purchase — is to contact the utilities. They will tell you what the bills were for the previous year. That’s not a absolute measure of what your bills might be — but it’s a good starting point.
Gas is cheaper, and it’s best to keep your water heater on the lowest setting that will give you hot water, but not scald you.
Gas is always cheaper than electricity. It does not matter how much you use for domestic purpose.
it all depends over here in calif our water and power are together and gas is seperate so if you use alot of hot water or gas heater your gas could be higher
It depends on where you live and what the climate is. Generally speaking, the more moderate the climate the price will be cheaper with electricity. The colder the climate, the better off you are with gas. You also have to consider that the price of gas fluctuates much more than electricity.
